DatasafeMag, an online publication dedicated to helping consumers keep their data safe online, announced its top 10 online backup rankings for 2012. This annual survey of the top online data backup solutions aims to provide an in-depth and comprehensive overview of the industry, in terms that average consumers can understand.

In its review, DatasafeMag looked at top online backup services including SugarSync, Mozy, Carbonite, Crashplan and Backblaze and compared them on feature set, ease of use and price. The survey was targeted at consumers as well as small business users who do not have a dedicated IT staff.

DatasafeMag ranked Crashplan at the top of its rankings for 2012 for its comprehensive feature set, relative ease of setup and the speed and reliability of its service. Crashplan’s Seeded Backup Service, in which the consumer is mailed a physical hard drive which they load with their initial data backup and send back to the company, was highlighted as one of the more unique and useful features for consumers in the online backup industry.

Mozy Online Backup ranked #2 in the Top 10 Online Backup survey. Mozy’s Data Shuffle Service, similar to Crashplan’s offering, was a key factor in the company’s appeal to reviewers. Mozy offers the same feature set to consumers and businesses in an easy to understand menu of option, making it appealing for its simplicity.
